Tire Melting Plant - Let your voice be heard

Contact Information:

Full Description:

The Ohio EPA is taking comments about issuing a permit for a proposed scrap tire melting plant in Columbus which would be located at the site of the former trash burning plant, which is close to Grove City. This trash burning plant was forcibly shut down by the federal EPA after realeasing dangerous levels of dioxin while the Ohio EPA did nothing to protect the public. Now the Ohio EPA wants to reopen it as an experimental tire melting facility without any regard for our health, quality of living, and property values. The OHIO EPA and the company wanting the permit have provided incomplete information on what pollution will be released into our air, especially the potential release of dioxin and benzene, which are known to cause cancer. The process used in this plant had never been practiced in the United States, which would essentially make us all guinea pigs. Send your comments to: Ohio EPA, Division of Air Pollution Control, Attn: Richard Lindstrom, 3232 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43207 by November 28th. Mr. Michael Long, Executive Director, Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, Administration Building, 6220 Young Road, Grove City, OH 43123 or call (614) 871-5100. The Southwest Neighbors Protecting Our Environment holds meetings about preventing this project on Tuesdays at 7pm at the New Horizon Church at 1665 Harrisburg Pike. If you're asked to sign a petition against the plant, please sign up and be counted! Get involved and protect your health and property values before it's too late!
